Merry Christmas...I guess!

Crazy, it's Christmas day! It doesn't feel like it though. No snow on the ground!

Just finished watching Phantom of the Opera! Wasn't expecting anything spectacular...it did helped me clarify who's who on the CD version though. The girl who played Christine was well cast; young, pretty, she could sing! Raoul was great in the scene on the roof of the opera house. Otherwise, I thought his performance was a little weak. His "Bravo" in Act 1 was lame. Phantom - wow, different than I expected...and I'm pretty sure his relationship with the Opera's ballet mistress was new. Didn't really sympathize with his character as I did in the musical. He just didn't seem charming - pushy, and overly obsessive about Christine. It was completely unbelievable that she would sympathize with him after all the murdering and threats. The sets were pretty nice, many beautiful costumes and some nice camera angles, although a bit choppy at in some of the scenes. Minnie Driver is just scary as the Prima Donna. I hope that wasn't her singing!

Yesterday was VERY exciting. YAY COLLEEN!!!

Crunch time!

Midterm season is here... and the craziness begins!

Homecoming was last weekend - that was good times.... I re-purpled my GPA finally and it is glorious. But it was a pretty crazy Saturday, that's for sure.

What else happened in October? Err, I was on the Geol 409 field school for an entire week and it was amazing. Trekking around in the brush at Calabogie and running the seismograph at Admaston - hard work I'm telling you! Of course, after a week of being away, it was like starting from Square 1 in the homework department. Amazing how fast stuff gets leached from my brain!

This past Saturday was awesome too. After madly rushing to the theatre to see Bright Young Things (decent...very artsy), we ran home and made up some impromtu costumes for a party. Donna went as a cowgirl (nice freckles...lol) and I was Lara Croft. yee haw! Play fighting is fun. A bunch of pics are posted on webshots... http://community.webshots.com/user/vampalcyone

Ahhh! Sci Formal is this weekend and so is the RMC fencing tournament... and then the Brock tournament next weekend... I can't believe everything is coming up so soon!

Yep, so I guess that means I should go study some Quantum.

good luck in the fall?

A fortune cookie told me I would have good luck this autumn - who knows what it was referring to but wow, things are definitely crazy in this block.

I found out just now my parents bought a new house?!? They are moving to a new place in Lake Bonavista (proper) sometime soon...and renting out the old place. CRAZY! The new house is a real fixer-upper. Lots of potential though. And hey, with all those decorating shows nowadays, it should be a good project. Wow, maybe I will want to live at home when I move back next year... ha ha

Another development: I am working for Shell next year! Definitely enjoying geophysics. Currently in 2 geology courses (argh, this lab I have not started the write-up for is due in 1 day!!), both taught by a prof who was an eng-phys grad 20+ years ago. He expects a lot of work in a short amount of time!

The fun continues with yearbook - 3.5 hours of interviews today, 4.5 tomorrow. Caffeine = good. We also unloaded ANOTHER 7 skids of yearbooks which was fun. I think the manual labour is over now - thank goodness.

My birthday celebration last week was fun! A few good friends got together at Tango, the local martini resto-bar and enjoyed tapas, a nice dinner & mmm..ice cream cake! Pics to come soon. My housemates also ROCK! They got me a guitar stand, metronome, cool picks and stuff I'll need to change strings. I'm set! Cheryl's friends are totally into guitar too, which makes it fun to "jam". Lately, I've been trying to learn wonderwall, blackbird, I dunno, the chords from song 2...easy stuff.

Bedtime...I think the cappuccino is wearing off. More to follow...

Ahhh! Yearbooks

Today was the Frosh Week Sidewalk sale...we distributed so many yearbooks. If only they weren't 5lbs each...at least it wasn't raining though. In fact, I think I may have the beginnings of a farmer's tan! All that hard work in Calgary to prevent tan lines... wasted in 1 day of southern Ontario glare.

But I've got the Vancouver Island pics up now! Check out the photojournal.

Hey, it's Friday night - gotta go out!

Back from BC!

After 18 hours on the road, I finally made it back to Calgary! Last night marked the end of a really fun family vacation - my first time to Vancouver Island!! I'll be posting a commentary & pics from the trip on my site very shortly.

Tonight, Steph, Colleen, Michelle & I got together one last time before my afternoon flight into Kingston tomorrow. We had some tex mex at the Santa Fe Grill (yay, quesidillas) and we tried fried ice cream. As good as it was, I think I'll stick to my waffle cones...after watching Super Size Me last week, unheathly eating just doesn't cut it!

I can't believe it is September 1st!!! That means I only have 2 more weeks to be 20. Wow. But really, what is a number? Time seems to pass so quickly these days...Ha ha, as if I don't use the word enough already, this summer was AWESOME. I had such a great time at work and the weekends were jam packed. The trip to Vancouver Island was a nice way to relax before shifting into study mode again. argh, studying...

Check out my website for photo updates...new stuff from the rafting trip, waterton, the fireworks competition (Michelle has all the pics - http://share.shutterfly.com/action/share/view?i=EeAN27li4ct2zj4&open=1&sm=1&sl=1), and my very own zucchini.

The Mid-August Blues

I can hardly believe that this summer is almost over! Last weekend was SOOO much fun. I went white water rafting with Shell people (Colleen had an awesome time too) and we stayed at a backcountry lodge near Golden, BC. The Kicking Horse River was awesome - I'd love to do it again when the water level is a bit higher. Not like I didn't get an adrenaline rush every time we hit an unexpected rapid though. The most fun was definitely the Lower Canyon - highly recommended, even for 1st time rafters. The only thing they don't tell you about in the brochure is that you have to portage across the middle canyon. That involves getting a "foot massage" when you make your way down the canyon wearing the little wetsuit booties. Ouch... I thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub at the lodge. First time I've ever rented such a large place I think! Much better than camping after a hard day of paddling. lol.

Hopefully this weekend is just as fun - skydiving may be cancelled though! They don't have any airplanes?? That didn't really make much sense to me. But anyways, I should probably be practicing the final presentation on my summer project I am giving on Monday.

Happy Birthday Colleen!

Horray! Not only is it Friday, it is time to celebrate Colleen's BIG Birthday... well, technically, she turned 21 yesterday. We invited Colleen out to the Olive Garden and had a really nice dinner. Of course, there was the obligatory embarrassing singing and yummy tiramisu. What's even better is that we went out for Colleen on Tuesday too! Jessie, Steph and I headed to the Moxie's in Chinook Centre and had a fun shopping adventure looking for a Maglight. LOL

Last weekend, Michelle & I saw Sam Roberts in Edmonton! Michelle's first roadtrip. Awesome. What an exciting show. We were in the 2nd row!! Check out pics of that and Colleen's little bash in my photojournal.

For lunch, I went to the Taste of Calgary festival today. Really good. Who doesn't like velvety chocolate cheesecake? After that, I headed back to the office and eagerly awaited the end of the work day. After all, the white water rafting trip is tomorrow!! So I'd better get a good night's sleep.

I can "smile"

Horray! It looks like my face is going to be normal again...I can sorta smile. It may be lopsided but hey, little steps.

Went out with Steph, Colleen and Michelle to celebrate STEPH's B-DAY! Shakespeare = good times... Awesome.

The company was great (I love stories...) and the food was fabulous. Too bad I didn't have my camera! LOL, I added the link to my webpage. Not much of it has been updated but the PHOTOJOURNAL is new. I will be posting lots of photos up on there and posting the latest links on this blog. Check it out! Beware of the many pop-up adds...and also, they're pretty high rez photos so feel free to DL the ones you want to print.

Ok, gotta get to bed so I can go into work at a decent hour - my crazy slow computer needs a coffee in the morning.

Well that was quick

One day you're at the dental surgeon getting a consultation and the next thing you know - one of your teeth is gone! Crazy...

It's Thursday afternoon and I am now the proud owner of 1 less tooth. I was optimistic that I could go back to work earlier...what was I thinking! This whole 10 minutes with ice, 10 minutes without, is fun and time consuming. I just hope that the pain killers don't wear off too soon.

Last night was amazing. Michelle & I headed to the grounds after she met me at the Whiskey (our department Stampede lunch was fun too!). The Whiskey has a great rooftop patio - mist is cool. After we stopped at the Emmanuel LaTruve bakery, we went to the Pink Floyd laser show!! The psychedelic glasses were awesome. Everything popped out at you. The best song they did was definitely Comfortably Numb (pics to come). After the show, we waited to get into Nashville North to see Jason McCoy. LOL, I waited all night for "I feel a sin coming on". When he played it during the encore, I was so happy! Too bad we missed the fireworks...

I think I'll post a Stampede Week album on my webpage. Yes! I finally have my act together and I'm going to update my webpage...it only took 3 years.

Sunday already?

This 4 day weekend has been pretty sweet - except for the uncooperative weather! No hiking... but I did go eat some tasty Dim Sum this morning and played guitar this afternoon - I think I've finally got "Love Me Tender" down! Work should be fun this week - my first presentation with my supervisor tomorrow and Stampede Parade day this Friday!!

And in other news...I started writing down some LIFE goals. Sounds so serious! But I'm on #14 and counting...maybe i'll post them later.

Wow, my first post!

Well, I'm late getting on the Blog Bandwagon but hey, it's up now! I'm sure you'll be seeing some random rants on here pretty soon.

What an awesome day. Colleen, Michelle & Steph came over for lunch, and we saw Mean Girls. Definitely the best $3 I've spent in a while - LOL. After cruising around Calgary (all four quadrants!), we had dinner at Chili's - who knew desserts could be SO big.
