Calgary is in a zone 3 climate, where the winters get quite cold, at time reaching -30. Usually that only lasts a few days though, and we are fortunate to get warm chinook winds that can dramatically warm the weather even in the middle of winter. Spring starts in May or so, and the growing season can last well into October.
Our house is in the inner city, and is shielded from harsh winds by the residential buildings nearby.
